REPORT : Geodesic Dome
Intention – We, first year students of HBP, are required to build a geodesic dome.
Actor – Then, we were divided
into groups of eight to nine members. My group consist of 9 members, that is Muhammad Faiz
Bin Punawi, Nurul Aniszatul Binti Ramli, Nur Fatin Binti Hamdan, Nur Adibah
Zahirah Binti Rosli, Atiqah Azizah Binti Amrin, Siti Noraishah Binti Alias,
Carlos Nicolaus, Muhd Ijmal Hasif Bin Izham and Muhammad Danial Bin Baharuddin(me).
Every one of us worked together as a team to finish the task given.
Rules – The pentagons of the dome
must be build within 3 weeks. The materials used must be zero cost, recyclable and
can withstand bad weather(heavy rain) and durability test(free fall). The dome
should consist of six pentagons only. We were also given 30 minutes to assemble
those six pentagons into a geodesic dome at the site.
Site – The presentation and the
test were held at Convocation Site which located beside Dewan Tunku Syed
Putra(DTSP).
Act – At first, all of us had a discussion on what
the materials should we use. It is slightly difficult for us to choose the type
of the materials. After a long discussion, we decided to use bamboo stick as
the dome’s inner frame and for the frame’s cover (roof), we decided to use rice
sacks. A lot of rice sack. To build the pentagons, we need five triangles. However,
we decided to build the pentagon first then we just put another bamboo sticks
to create triangles inside the pentagon. After that, we made a durability test
to a pentagon. We did the test on every single one of them before we assembled
it into a dome.
Product – The end product were
finished. Our intention to build a geodesic dome were achieved. The geodesic
dome is finished during the time given. However, we did not manage to cover the
whole dome because lack of rice sacks. The test started by having a durability
test then followed by weather test. The first test was fine, we managed to pass
it even there was one single bamboo stick fall down before we dropped it. The second
test was not good enough. We failed because we did not cover the whole dome and
so the “rain” were coming right at us “heavily”.
